Trineo team members live in cities ranging from Seattle, Washington, to Christchurch, New Zealand, with interests that include yoga, music, and herbology. In this series, we’ll learn more about these extraordinary people we are proud to call friends and colleagues.
Location: Sydney, Australia
What is your role and how long have you been with Trineo: Global Head of Marketing for nearly a year and a half.
Today we celebrate International Women's Day, what does being recognised as an international woman in business mean to you?
Like anyone else, I’ve experienced the highs and lows throughout my career. From a mismatched work environment or difficult manager to the most amazing growth experiences and cultures...and let’s not forget the path that brought me to Australia! On balance, it’s been a bit of luck mixed with a lot of stubbornness and drive, nurtured by people who believed in me and helped me find the maturity to succeed as an international leader in business.
Whilst I’m someone who prefers to celebrate the little things every day, it’s meaningful to take a moment to publicly acknowledge women across the globe who have broken the mould and achieved many great things. My great hope is that in time we won’t need to specifically call out the achievements of women in business but that society will adopt the practice of celebrating all people based on their merits. In the meantime, it is important to purposefully dedicate time to call out these achievements, and to inspire every ambitious woman - young and old - and show her that she too can do anything she sets her brilliant mind and energy to do.
Can you give us a high level of your professional background prior to Trineo? I started my career without much real direction - who knows what they really want at 20! I was a bit clueless but lucky enough to have had some amazing mentors that helped me to develop my skills and be open to different sorts of opportunities. While not a traditional path, there has always been a similar thread of connecting people, strategic integration and storytelling. From the HQ of a major hotel brand to marketing roles across various technology platforms and software development firms, I somehow found my way to today. It’s been quite the ride!
Anything you would have done differently leading up to now, professionally? I’ve made plenty of mistakes and had some challenging experiences but I try to use each experience as time to reflect and respond, and determine how I’d like to do things better and different in the future. I’ve had a lot of support to get to this level of emotional and professional maturity and I’m definitely far from perfect! All in, it's been an incredible journey for which I am wiser and more self-aware, enabling me to go after roles at businesses that are well aligned to my values. Plus it took me all the way from Ohio, to Denver, to Chicago and now Sydney!
If you had to pick one thing, what would you say you like most about working at Trineo? On paper, the role is what first attracted me to Trineo. It was the right industry and skillset with room to make it my own as the company is going through an exciting time of maturity and growth. As I got to know the team through many conversations and now a year-plus working together - I can firmly say the real magic lives in our values and our culture. I’m super stoked to see where the adventure takes us!
How would you describe Trineo’s culture? Thoughtful. Empathetic. Inquisitive.
What can we find you doing in your spare time? I am lucky enough to live on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and I spend a fair bit of my spare time near or in the water. When I’m not watching the waves I enjoy being active and traveling as much as possible. Like many of us that’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to when the world opens back up!
Three words to describe your personality: Impulsive. Curious. Stubborn.
Favorite holiday and why? I would say one of the most impactful holidays was a trip I took over a decade ago to Patagonia. It was only my second time traveling out of the country (USA) and I took a few weeks to do some solo hiking and rafting along the Biobío River. I often say I found my soul beneath the Fitz Roy peaks as it was really the gateway to many adventures that would take me all over the world.
Tell us how you connect with and give back to your community: Mentorship is something I’m very passionate about. As a young, impressionable professional and throughout my career I’ve grown the most and found my confidence and my voice through the encouragement and support of some very wonderful (and patient) people. It brings me joy to pay it forward and I always have the time for anyone who is seeking growth. I’ll always continue to put in the work to improve myself and I find the more vulnerable and open to it I become, the more interesting it gets!
