Cultivating Creativity at Trineo
January 20, 2014
I am commonly asked which industry or vertical we most commonly work within - whether we have a specialty/niche. The answer is that our specialty is the ability to study and learn about any domain, and we work within numerous industries ranging from retail, insurance through to cell phone recycling and disabled sport foundations.
Our team is a curious bunch. We come from diverse backgrounds, and are motivated by our diversity of experience and exposure to wide ranging subject matter.
One of the downsides to this of course, is that it takes a lot of effort to maintain currency and focus on the wide variety of areas we work within. Furthermore, each project/area has its constraints. Some are green-field while some have history/process/overheads.
Green-field projects require upfront thinking and careful consideration to lay down appropriate foundations. On the other hand, working within long running projects requires a degree of pragmatism and calm when legacy processes hamper our momentum.
In any scenario, we act in the best interests of our customer. Period.
What about our own interests? Our team is comprised of individuals who are musicians, triathletes, cyclists, runners, climbers, budding chefs, DIY telescope builders, amateur astronomers and most amusingly one of us has recently developed an obsession with bacon.
On our first working day in 2014, a number of the bespoke team piped up about building robots. Tinkering with hardware has long been an interest which we have never brought into our daily professional lives.
That has changed in 2014.
By the end of the first working week in 2014, we had ordered kits for and built 4 fully functional sumo wrestling robots. Our aim is simple. Have fun. Try to outwit each other - these robots can be programmed to adapt and 'fight' in the ring with behaviour dictated by the software that controls them - software that is written by us.
This little robotics platform is the confluence of creativity, diversity and a healthy combination of collaboration and competition.
Our team consistently demonstrates a razor sharp focus on our customers' motivations and they follow through with persistent effort to achieve our customers' goals.
The team also deserves the chance to create, play and be without boundaries. We sincerely believe that this means everyone wins.
Let the games begin :)
