Trineo heads to Cloudforce Sydney
June 17, 2012
Last week five members of Team Trineo crossed the Tasman Sea and arrived in Sydney for Cloudforce: the region's biggest cloud computing event with around 5000 people in attendance.
On the Wednesday evening we ventured up 268 metres to the top of Sydney Tower for the Sydney DeveloperForce meetup. About 200 people gathered to hear one talk about Force.com and one about Heroku. The evening started with a great presentation from Pat Patterson, Developer Evangelist at Salesforce.com, who gave a presentation about using Facebook logins for accessing Salesforce Portals. The practical demonstration showed how Facebook and other 3rd party providers can be setup for customer portal access.
Next up was our very own Abhinav talking about, "Zen, and the Art of Web Application Development." Abhinav's presentation went down very well with the audience and got a rousing reception at the end. The talk focussed on the full lifecycle of developing with ruby, git, heroku and other tools. The benefits were shown with a live demonstration and the demo gods played along and everything worked without a hitch.
The evening finished with a fun cloud trivia event where we all put our knowledge of Force.com and Heroku to the test. Trineo team members did well and showed their skills amongst the crowd of developers.
Thursday was show day. The scale of this years event was big - about double last year. We filed into the auditorium for the keynote address and were treated to two hours of great presentations and customer demonstrations. A great local example was Commonwealth Bank of Australia who are really embracing the social enterprise concept.
In the afternoon Abhinav had another chance to present our work in the, "Intro to Heroku: Building Next Generation Apps" breakout session. This session showcased our work on the SpotU Digital advertising platform. This was again well received and another chance for Trineo to showcase our work. This hopefully won't be the last time this story is told - watch this space!
Cloudforce Sydney showed the momentum of cloud computing in this region and how fast this is growing. If Cloudforce is any indication then Dreamforce in San Francisco is going to be very big indeed!
